About Our Authors

Janice Turner

Janice Turner is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. She was a teacher in various highschools in the lower Vancouver Island school districts in British Columbia for over fifteen years. Although she taught different subjects she had English and Literature vocational and academic classes primarily.

Jan developed unique study techniques that helped many of her students qualify easily for entrance to colleges and universities. One year twelve of her students wrote exams for scholarship programs and were in the top thirty chosen for British Columbia.

After Jan retired she became interested in dyslexia due to her daughter, Karen having problems with her daughter being dyslexic. After ten years of researching, tutoring, and developing the techniques for the right-brained child, she wrote the books sold on this website together with her daughter and co-author, Karen Hope.

Karen Hope like her children, is dyslexic. She discovered her daughter, Genevieve (pictured here with her mother) was dyslexic when she was in the second grade. She had an observant teacher who saw there were odd learning problems with Gen and suggested she be tested by the school’s special education teacher. When they got the results they told Karen that her daughter was dyslexic and that the school system offered no teaching solutions.

This was the start of a long and frustrating journey for Karen and her family. It turned out that all three of her children, her husband and she herself were dyslexic. She dedicated herself to finding answers and found them. She collaborated with her mother, Janice, to offer her family’s first-hand experience with the training methods she created for her children during their schooling.

Her children´s success in school and in their careers is testimony to the value of these methods and instruction. We also dedicate our site to Genevieve pictured above with her mother who started us on this incredible journey.

Book Border

Together they designed these books to help teachers, parents, and students recognize what being right-brained involves and to provide them with simple teaching and learning techniques. It is intended to help these students understand that they learn differently from those who are left-brained, and so need to be taught differently.
